Leadership Laboratory


Student Well-Being #1 Purpose

The Leadership Laboratory Program is intended for students who have a strong interest in developing their leadership style on a more advanced level as they participate in student or professional organizations. Participants will learn what it means to be an effective leader who can make a difference with other leaders and followers in their communities through social change and community engagement. This program will encourage students to think about their understanding of leadership and will challenge students to become more servant leaders by volunteering with non-profit agencies in the central Florida region.

Students who complete this program will be able to:

  • Identify personal areas of growth related to their leadership style
  • Discuss social change issues and how to make an impact
  • Develop basic leadership skills and establish a strong leadership foundation that can be passed on to other students.
  • Understand the components of leadership and how to apply them in student or professional organizations
  • Express their personal values, ethics, and individual style of leadership
  • Engage in difficult and ethical conversations and respect diverse perspectives
  • Provide student leaders with opportunities to reflect on how their leadership experiences have contributed to the development of their character and awareness of self.

Program Requirements:

  • LDR 3905 Leadership Laboratory #1 – Foundations (1 cr.)
    • 15 Hours of service
    • Attend at least 2 organizations meetings
  • LDR 3905 Leadership Laboratory #2 – Advanced (1 cr.)
    • 15 Hours of service
    • Complete semester project OR
    • Serve in a leadership position in a student organization
  • LDR 3905 Ethics and Decision Making (0 cr.)
    • 15 Hours of service
    • Biweekly seminars
    • Social Change Research Project
    • LEAD Scholars Social Change Showcase
